Students and Universities
Connect learning with a real community need.
Students, faculty and institutions can propose supervised service, research, capstone projects and appropriate placement arrangements. We review the task, learning goals, supervision, accessibility and requirements before confirming participation.
Students should explain any academic or service requirement before beginning. Institutions can help design a useful assignment and agree how learning and service will be assessed.
Credit, employment, immigration permissions and recognition by an outside institution are not automatic. An FWF participation record documents only work that can be substantiated.
Register student or internship interest · Propose a university partnership
Three clear starting points
Students: describe the contribution you would like to make, your general location and availability, and any learning or service requirement. You can express interest without claiming a placement is available.
Internship applicants: read the details of an advertised opening, including its duties, supervision, time commitment and paid or unpaid status. If there is no suitable opening, use the student inquiry to share your interests.
Faculty and institutions: propose a defined project, learning objective or collaboration and explain what supervision, assessment or agreement would be needed.
Before any activity begins, confirm the task, responsible supervisor and required records. Academic credit or outside recognition must be agreed with the relevant institution; it is not created by submitting an inquiry.
Credit and service-hour requirements
Volunteer and internship opportunities depend on current projects, supervision and eligibility. If you need school credit or community-service verification, obtain approval from your school, court or referring organization before starting. FWF may document approved hours actually completed; acceptance of those hours or academic credit is decided by the requesting institution. Youth participation may require parent or guardian consent and additional safeguards.
An internship label or school credit does not itself determine whether an activity is paid or unpaid. The actual role and arrangements require review before a start is confirmed.
A useful first inquiry
Tell us whether your interest is service learning, an internship, capstone or research work, student volunteering or another supervised contribution. Include your location or time zone, availability and what you would like to learn or contribute. State whether school credit or service-hour verification is needed, not needed or uncertain. If an institution is involved, identify it and explain its requirements at the appropriate review stage.
Please do not send private records about people receiving support, identity documents or unnecessary information about a child. Any minor’s participation needs an approved guardian or institution-mediated arrangement.
