Community Initiative Studio

Start with an idea from your own community.

You may see a useful project before anyone else does: a learning session, a needs-matched drive, an accessible resource guide or a practical improvement to a shared space. Tell us what the community needs, what you propose and who could help.

You may share an idea without volunteering to lead it, propose a new activity, or introduce an independent project seeking collaboration. These are different starting points.

We review fit, local permissions, supervision, safety, resources and evidence before authorizing work in FWF’s name. Please wait for written approval before fundraising, spending, using FWF branding or describing an activity as an FWF project.

From idea to decision

  1. Explain the need. Describe the community and issue without naming people who may need support.

  2. Outline the activity. Tell us what you suggest, what resources are already available, what help is needed and any risks you can see.

  3. Clarify your role. You may be sharing an idea, proposing to help lead it or seeking collaboration for an independent activity.

  4. Wait for a decision and agreed scope. An FWF-authorized project needs the necessary permissions, responsibilities, supervision and resources before it begins. An independent project remains independent unless a specific relationship is agreed.

Agree the project before starting

A promising proposal may move to a project charter covering the need, community input, scope, responsibilities, permissions, resources, timing, supervision, accessibility, safety, evidence and closeout. You do not need a complete charter to share an initial idea.

An independent activity, an FWF-supported activity and an FWF-authorized project are distinct. A submission receipt does not authorize work, provide a grant or establish retroactive FWF supervision. Publicity, intellectual-property permissions and any use of names, images or stories require separate review.
